The schools track and field season kicked off the last fortnight with the South Leinster Schools Track and Field Championships in Waterford.   There was success for the school both in track and field events.   In the field events, Gergely Pap took gold in both the junior shot putt and hammer.   Jack Forde took silver in the junior shot putt and followed that up with a win in the Junior High Jump.  Both Gergely and Jack ensured qualification for the Leinsters in both events.   Nathan Murphy also guaranteed qualification for the Leinsters with a silver in the discus.   Conor Keane and Sean White had top 6 finishes in the 1500m and 800m respectively.   Paul Freeman also had a top 5 finish in the 3000m race.   The seniors enjoyed success the following Thursday with impressive runs across the sprinting events.   David McDonald won the 200m, Aaron Smith won the 110m hurdles and Luke and Sam O’Neill also ran well in the sprints.   The 4×100m relay team also qualified for the Leinster Finals with Luke and Sam O’Neill, Leon Nolan-Cullen, Aaron Smith and Conor Brennan all helping the team to silver.   The team will hopefully have David McDonald back for the relay at the Leinsters to bolster their chances of further success.
