Application Form: Zambia 2027 Interest Form

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),

Following on from our very successful Immersion Project in June 2025 and in keeping with our ethos of helping those less fortunate than ourselves, we are currently organising an Immersion Project to Zambia for the current Third Year and Transition Year cohorts. This is an exciting opportunity for a small group of students to immerse themselves in a different culture and volunteer in Kabwe, Zambia in June 2027.

Since 2006, our school has participated in this project. Students and staff have supported hospices, taught and interacted with local students and contributed to the building of a school run by ZAMDA Ireland. On this occasion, students will fundraise throughout the 2026/27 academic year for the continued development of Sables Nua, a school serving a developing community in Kabwe, Zambia.

It is essential that students wishing to travel are committed and hard-working. Those interested in being involved in the project are asked to complete the attached expression of interest form and return it to Ms Turner in her Year Head Office or Mr Byrne in Room 34 before 1.45pm on Tuesday, 3rd March. We anticipate a high level of interest and, therefore, it may be necessary to shortlist applicants and hold interviews in order to select the final group.

Although the final cost has not yet been confirmed, the projected total cost of the project is approximately €2,500 per student. As part of the experience, students will take ownership of their participation by fundraising or earning at least €500 towards this amount. This helps to reduce the overall cost to families while also developing valuable skills such as responsibility, teamwork and initiative. Individual fundraising will take place from May to September 2026, and the full cost of €2,500 will be payable by September 2026.

From September 2026 to June 2027, students will also participate in group fundraising activities, with all funds raised going directly towards supporting our project work in Kabwe. Further detailed information will be shared with successful applicants.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us via our school email addresses.

Kind regards,

Michael McMahon, Principal.
