Classical Studies

The CBS is proud to offer students the option to enter the ancient and fascinating world of classical studies.  Classes can transport you to the magical and rich cultures of Greek and Roman civilisations.  Students are given the rare opportunity to study ancient classics such as Homer’s “Iliad” and Virgil’s “Aeneid”, while also experiencing the wonder of the plays of Plautus and exploring in detail the all-conquering Roman army.

Ancient myths are brought to life and creatures long thought dead are reborn.  To experience the world of centaurs, nymphs and vicious Gods, students need only opt to take this road back in time. For children with an interest in history, this is an ideal subject as fact and fiction are blended to provide a unique insight into an ancient world.  This subject provides a solid basis for the understanding of many modern cultures while increasing the vocabulary and comprehension skills of those who engage with it.

The study of classics is most beneficial to students of English and History as it compliments the skills of reading, writing and comprehending, while also allowing their imaginations to flourish.  It is currently available at Junior Certificate and is an excellent choice for the boys who want to explore further.
